The UF Philosophy Department congratulates graduate student Marcus Davis, who has recently achieved three significant distinctions for his dissertation work, and one for his teaching.
For Summer 2025, Marcus has been awarded both a prestigious CLAS Dissertation Completion Fellowship, supported by the Robin and Jean Gibson Fellowship Endowment, and a Tedder Doctoral Fellowship in the Humanities. These highly competitive fellowships recognize graduate students across the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences who demonstrate exceptional promise in their research. The awards will provide Marcus with dedicated time and resources to focus on completing his dissertation.
In addition, Marcus was named runner-up in the university-wide Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. The 3MT challenges graduate students to present their dissertation research in just three minutes to a non-specialist audience, demonstrating clarity, precision, and accessibility. Marcus’s engaging presentation, on “Gaming the System: A Philosophical Analysis,” impressed the judges and highlighted his ability to communicate complex philosophical ideas to a broader audience.
Oh, and he also won a Graduate Student Teaching Award for 2024-2025!
We are thrilled to celebrate Marcus’s successes and his contributions to our academic community. Please join us in congratulating him on these well-deserved accomplishments!
